Monty graduated from James Clemens High School in Madison, Alabama, and was a four star member for the 2017 recruiting class (according to 247sports.com). He received offers from schools such as California, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee and Alabama, but on January 2, 2017 he committed to the University of Georgia.
He played as a true freshman in 2017, and over 40 games in his four seasons he had 219 tackles (10.5 for a loss), 2 sacks, 5 PD, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 TD. He was a Second Team All-SEC member after his junior year, and was also a co-defensive MVP for Georgia. He was a First Team All SEC member after his senior year.
