After moving to the United States from Nigeria when he was 10 years old, Joseph played high school football at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas. He was a four star recruit (according to 247sports.com) with offers from schools like Stanford, Oklahoma State, LSU and Alabama, but ultimately chose to attend the University of Texas at Austin.
He played as a true freshman in 2018, and in 29 games while at college (over three seasons) he had 165 tackles (30 for a loss), 11.5 sacks, 2 INT, 3 PD, 5 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. He was named to the First Team All Big 12 after his junior season.
